Over the past 27 years Grace Christian Center has reached around the world into numerous foreign communities to help and serve those in need.   By providing people with food, shelter, medicine and more we not only are able to meet their physical needs, but also touch their emotional and spiritual needs.  Since 2002, a special focus has been placed on working in the country of Ethiopia. 

Like other Countries in the region, Ethiopia has been faced with the challenges of drought and famine and the complications that these situations bring along with them.  Seeing a nation with challenges, but a nation with hope, Grace Christian Center and Pastor Terry Whitley decided to make a commitment to serving the great people of this great nation.

Teaming up with Ethiopian native Getahun Tesema, the mission’s ministry has taken shape, with a focus not being on dollars and programs but on the people.  With a vision and a support system in place, we are now able and capable to engage the culture with the heartbeat of God.

Enable

From the beginning, the goal has been to go beyond establishing programs, and   touch the lives of the people in a real and tangible way.  Special care and attention was given to connect with the local people and provide them with the tools necessary to serve their communities.  Access into this country came through touching the hearts of the people and impacting their lives forever with real and relevant opportunities for change. 

Our main access into Ethiopia has been enabled through our social program system

Foster Care Program – provides for the basic needs of orphans along with special educational support.

Prevention and Rehabilitation of Street Children and Youth – A special skill training program

Basic Skills Development Training - An 8 month basic skill training for those most disadvantaged members of the community.

Nazareth Skill Training and Community Based Rehabilitation Program – A special Skill training and rehabilitation program with special support for people living with disabilities.

Care and Support for People Living With HIV and AIDS – Income generation activities, Home Based Care Services and Skills Training program.

Nutritional Support Program –Distributes food to orphans, vulnerable children and people living with HIV and AIDS.

Educational Assistance Program –Program to provide school materials for Orphan Children.

Aroressa Kindergarten and Primary Education Program – A program that provides kindergarten and primary education to children from destitute families in the Aroressa area.

Agricultural & Medical Fund – A program that donates agricultural and medical equipment and supplies to hospitals and health centers.

The results of our efforts over the years has touched multitudes of people.  From our initial ministry crusades in 2002 that reached an estimated 1,000,000 people to our ongoing social and economic programs that touched over 400,000 people in 2006, an amazing impact has been made from our very humble expectations.  And this work has not gone unnoticed.  With national recognition and presidential support the work here is far from over.
